LeAnna Shields – Indie Author To Watch

This week I am pleased to interview LeAnna Shields, the author of The Alestrion Chronicles.

Set in a distant universe, this book tells the story of Aria. A young girl who at the age of five is taken from her home world by pirates. Sold into a life of slavery she starts the story as a slave in a circus. When she’s rescued by a stranger named Jarron, she has no idea what her new life has in store for her or what her return means in a secret power struggle. Join Aria as she adapts to new-found freedom and fame on a world where griffins are real and a phoenix is going to return.

What do you most enjoy about writing?

What I enjoy most about writing is the freedom of it.  Anything is possible in my books.  Also, when it comes to my genre (science fiction), I like to ask myself, how would God interact with this world if it existed?

What is the best piece of advice you can give to your fellow authors?

Hmm, that would have to be, just write.  It doesn’t have to make sense, just write.  Also, I heard this at a conference I went to: don’t erase anything.

What is your favorite book and why?

Wow! My favorite book?  Next to the Bible, I love Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings Trilogy and C.S. Lewis’ Chronicles of Narnia.  Though I also love Paul Young’s The Shack.  I love the way Young pulls you in emotionally.

Where did you get the idea for The Alestrion Chronicles?

I could give the whole I’ve had this idea for years speech, but the truth is I came up with the idea while daydreaming in a philosophy class I should have been paying attention to.  I got the idea of a girl named Aria and before I knew it, the other characters just fell into place.

What does the future hold for you? More books?
At the risk of sounding too preachy, the future hold whatever God wants for me. I’m currently working on book two of the Alestrion Chronicles. The working title for this one is The Ancient Battle, but don’t hold me to it. I’m also working on a Steampunk (Victorian Science fiction) novel.

Thanks LeAnna for visiting.  I wish you the best of luck with your novels.  Folks, please go around and say hi to LeAnna!
