Welcome indie author Ron Hummer. Ron has a book out that has a title that certainly grabs your attention…
A Hell of A Woman, that’s a hell of a title – tell us about the book:
It’s actually two stories. One is Don Gunn, an advertising salesperson who meets a woman
that is younger than him. He doesn’t know anything about her such as the fact that she is a person of interest in 5 murders.
The other part of the story is that he is on the verge of losing his job due to his non-compete agreement. His agreement states that he can’t work for another agency that has a competing product. In addition, he is an at will employee who can be fired at any time for any reason and he won’t be able to work in his industry for 2 years. As a result, he is fighting the clock trying to get a job before he is fired. The tough part is that the jobs he is unqualified for the jobs he is interviewing for and that makes the situation worse.
How did you come up with the idea?
I wanted to write a book about non-compete agreements and how thousands of people are losing their jobs and can’t work in the industry. I am on a similar non-compete agreement and have knowledge and experience on this subject. I wanted to wrap the story in a mystery like I did with my previous book, 96 Rocks, which also covered non-compete agreements.
I wanted to add a subplot to the story so I thought of Confessions of a Black Widow by Greg Olsen. It’s a true story. I guess that’s how the serial killer came up or a person of interest in this case.
The story has baseball in it – are you a baseball nut?
I love the game and I’m a San Francisco Giants fan. Since the novel takes place in Allentown, Pennsylvania, I thought it would be fun to throw the Phillies in the story.
How long have you been writing? What do you like about it and hate about it?
I’ve been writing on and off for 15 years. I don’t like proofreading (must have read my book 8 times).
What’s next in terms of writing?
I’m not sure yet. I have two other books that are written but I’m not sure if I’ll release them. I’m going to see how these books go.

Thanks Ron for stopping by and sharing some indie author thoughts. I wish you the best of success with your book and future writing. Hey, if it’s got baseball, that’s a plus in my book
.

If the book is as good as the title, it’ a really good book. Sounds like a country song on a West Texas jukebox.
Yes, the title is good
. Thanks for stopping by and reading the interview.
I had the pleasure of reading this fantastic book, and the name does not do it justice! The meaning behind the story is clear, and lets you know the true nature of the beast, non-competes!!
That’s wonderful to hear. Thanks so much for sharing with us!
